Charities - Revenue Notification
CENTRAL REGISTER OF BENEFICIAL OWNERSHIP OF TRUSTS
Revenue has issued a general notification to all registered charities, emphasising the necessity to consider registering with the Central Register of Beneficial Ownership of Trusts (CRBOT).
Charities are required to register with the CRBOT if a relevant trust exists within their structure. A relevant trust refers to a trust established by a written deed or declaration that holds assets on behalf of the charity. If your charity's assets are not held in a trust established by a written deed or declaration, registration is not required.
For those charities that have not yet registered, we advise you to consult with your legal advisors to determine whether a relevant trust exists within your charity's structure. Should your legal advisors confirm the presence of such a trust, registration with the CRBOT will be necessary.
For those charities that have already registered, it is important that the register is updated to reflect a change to the board of trustees.
Please get in touch with Ronan O'Brien or Fergus Woodcock if you have any questions or require us to facilitate the registration process for your charity.
